Improper material selection:

Choosing incompatible materials for the operating environment is a critical mistake. For example, using hardware prone to rust (like untreated carbon steel) on equipment in a humid location will inevitably compromise the part’s structural integrity and lead to premature failure from corrosion.

Material defects:

Hidden flaws within the material, such as hairline cracks or impurities, significantly increase the risk of the hardware deforming, warping, or fracturing during operation.

Material Aging and Degradation:

Over a long service life, a material’s performance will naturally deteriorate. A common sign of this aging process is the embrittlement of plastic components, which can cause them to crack or snap unexpectedly under stress.

Design Defects
