How to Use This Calculator
- 1. Select the Opening Type: Choose “Top/Bottom Flap Cover” for horizontal flipping covers, or “Side Opening Door” for vertical axis doors.
- 2. Enter Door/Cover Weight: Total weight of the door/cover in kilograms (kg).
- 3. Enter Effective Length (L): Distance from hinge axis to the farthest edge of the cover/door in millimeters (mm).
- 4. Set Number of Hinges: Total number of hinges used to support the door/cover (minimum 1).
- 5. Adjust Center of Gravity Position: Percentage of effective length where the center of gravity is located (default 50% for uniform weight distribution).
- 6. Set Safety Factor: Recommended 1.2 (1.0-2.0) to account for material tolerances and dynamic loads.
- 7. The calculator automatically computes the required torque per hinge in Newton-meters (N·m) in real-time.
- ⚠️ Note: For side opening doors, the result is for damping reference only (gravity does not create rotational torque around vertical axes).
